Professor McCarter has two articles forthcoming in Classical Journal and Transactions of the American Philological Association. “Maior Post Otia Virtus: Public and Private in Statius, Silvae 3.5 and 4.4” will soon be published in Classical Journal, published by the Classical Association of the Middle West and South. In this article Professor McCarter examines how Statius carefully negotiates his persona and genre amid the social complexities of Domitianic Rome. “The Forging of a God: Venus, the Shield of Aeneas, and Callimachus’s Hymn to Artemis” will be published this fall in Transactions of the American Philological Association, the official journal of the American Philological Association, the premier Classical society in North America. In this piece she considers how the Callimachean hymn provides a useful template for the development of Venus as well as that of Aeneas in Vergil’s Aeneid and Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
